About TEC High School
DESE Approved Public Day School, Grades 8-12
At TEC High School (THS), we believe in the power of individualized support and personalized learning to nurture the potential within each student. With a small and caring environment, we cater to the unique needs of 20-25 students in grades 8-12, creating a space where every individual can thrive.
Our students generally possess average to above-average cognitive and academic abilities, but often face challenges related to anxiety, depression, and trauma. For many students at THS, these internal struggles have hindered their academic progress and social integration in a traditional high school setting. At THS, we understand these struggles, and our experienced staff are here to provide a supportive environment that addresses these obstacles with empathy and understanding.
Our students’ profiles may include:
At TEC High School, we believe in the transformative potential of personalized education and compassionate support. Our dedicated team of MA DESE licensed educators is committed to empowering students to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve success in both academics and life. We foster a nurturing environment where every student's journey is valued, celebrated, and guided toward a brighter future.
Academic Program
Aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, our academic program ensures that students meet all requirements to obtain a diploma from their school district, including passing the MCAS exam. Our highly-skilled educators work alongside licensed clinicians to support students in achieving both academic and personal goals.
Our THS staff work closely with students, families, and districts to assist students to select appropriate coursework and monitor their credits toward graduation. In addition to core academic classes, THS students have access to facilitated online courses through TEC Online Learning and/or dual enrollment for community college coursework.
Each THS student is a member of a small Academic Time Management (ATM) group with a dedicated advisor to help students develop and strengthen executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, task initiation and general study skills.
Clinical Support
Our licensed clinicians are fully integrated into the school's daily operations, working closely with teachers and support personnel to create a caring, trauma-informed environment.
Clinicians provide scheduled counseling sessions each week to help students tackle academic and personal challenges, empowering them to reach their goals. In addition, they lead small group counseling sessions focused on identified needs, such as problem-solving, relationship building, and identity development. Clinicians use the principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help students acknowledge and understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while increasing their emotional regulation skills, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Through on-going collaboration with parents, caregivers, and community providers, counselors support student progress and success across all settings.
In addition to TEC High School’s standard program, THS offers placements for students in need of an extended evaluation or a transition out of hospitalization.
