Now, more than ever, it is important to address the learning of the Multilingual Learners – MLs – in our classrooms. Multilingual Learners come from a variety of backgrounds in terms of culture, languages spoken and immigration/visa status. Some come to our classrooms with a strong prior educational experience; some come with limited or interrupted educational experiences. Continuing to refine our understanding of the experiences faced by MLLs and their families and refining our teaching practices to meet the current demands in the classroom is an important part of our professional commitment to all students’ learning.
This workshop will review teaching strategies that research has shown to be effective when working with MLs. The workshop will also introduce new strategies and refinements that have surfaced as, nationally, we gain greater experience and expertise working with Multilingual Learners. Participants in the workshop will share their own practice with colleagues through discussions in synchronous online sessions and by presenting a final project designed to be used in their own classroom.
