In this workshop, Inclusive Classroom Design with Technology, participants will learn about intentionally designing an Inclusive Classroom to further education equity for all learners. The thoughtful infusion of technology will be an essential part of this process. Participants will use the principles of Universal Design for Learning to plan flexible lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners in the classroom, use the SETT Framework to match learner needs to tools that ensure access and engagement, and explore a range of accessibility tools and features.
This self-paced course can be used, in conjunction with the Individual Professional Development Plan, to satisfy the minimum 15 PDPs related to training in strategies for effective schooling for students with disabilities and instruction of students with diverse learning styles as according to the Massachusetts License Renewal Requirements for a Professional License.

Goals and Objectives
During this self-paced course, participants will learn skills and strategies to:
- Discover how creating adjustable plans for ALL can reduce the need for individual planning.
- Apply the principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework to their own inclusive lesson design planning.
- Develop an appreciation of the power of educational and assistive technology to support Inclusive Learning Practices by exploring built-in accessibility features and a variety of flexible tools to support learners in accessing the curriculum.
- Practice using the collaborative SETT framework as a guide to identify individual learner needs and select appropriate tools to meet those needs.
- Curate Inclusive Classroom Design and Technology resources to support future application of skills.
- Plan next steps for sharing newfound knowledge with peers.
Audience
This workshop is intended for all Massachusetts K-12 educators, including support personnel, technology specialists, curriculum specialists, and professional development specialists. This course will fulfill the required 15 PDPs related to training in strategies for effective schooling for students with disabilities and instruction of students with diverse learning needs necessary for renewal of your Massachusetts professional teaching license. Participants are expected to have regular access to computers and be proficient with email and web browsing.
Structure
This online, self-paced professional development workshop is divided into four sessions: an orientation and three content-based sessions. Each content session includes readings, videos, and activities that ask participants to apply what they learn. As a final project, participants will compile a Google Doc with the following components: reflections, a UDL Lesson Plan, a SETT Framework to determine one student’s strengths and learning needs, and a Technology Tool Exploration. The time for completing each content session is estimated to be between four and five hours and the total amount of time required for the entire course is estimated to be 15 hours.
