Threshold of Another World: The hero’s journey in literature
The Hero’s Journey is a powerful and entertaining concept used to structure many pieces of literature and can be applied to literacy units and lessons throughout all ELA standards. This course will provide strategies to help students analyze literature through the lens of the hero’s journey. In the first module, we will examine the global structure of the hero journey. In the second module, we will examine attributes of the hero journey story structure: character, setting, figurative language, etc., particularly as it applies to works of fiction. In the final module, we will apply our understanding of the hero’s journey to biography and other works of nonfiction literature.
