Assessing Student Progress: An actionable best practice
Participants will use the DESE Educator Evaluation tool Standards for Effective Teaching as a lens to examine, refine and refresh important elements of their own teaching related to ways they assess student learning and progress (Standard I).
What kinds of formative assessments do you regularly use?
How do you use assessment data to adjust your teaching?
How do you communicate with students about results of assessments so they can use the information to improve their performance?
To take this workshop and 4 others for one graduate credit and at a reduced price, go to Actionable Best Practices: Examine your practice through the lens of DESE educators’ evaluation standards.
About the Instructor
Iolanda Volpe is a former high school teacher, World Language Department Chair, and most recently, a Pre-K-12 Mentoring and Induction Program facilitator. Her career in the Concord Public Schools and the Concord-Carlisle High School includes teaching the Spanish language and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world and managing a department of sixteen educators who taught French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish. She worked closely with her school-wide colleagues as a teacher evaluator and encouraged collaboration and reflection on best practices. Iolanda also led the co-writing of the curriculum for a new district-wide K-5 Spanish Language Program and mentored the teachers who were new to the profession or new to teaching a world language. Iolanda was the coordinator of this successful proficiency-based program, which is now in its 7th year.
She continues to be passionate about learning at all stages of life and advocates for ongoing, relevant professional development that supports teachers to positively impact student learning and well-being.
